Fort Valley Line

Fort Valley line service map / web

The westernmost segment of the three Georgia Southern lines is the Fort Valley route, a 30 mile section of trackage starting in Perry in the southeast and ending at Roberta in the northwest. Fort Valley is essentially the midpoint of the line. Interchange is maintained there with the Norfolk Southern's Macon to Americus mainline, including the nearby diverging Columbus line. Both of these NS routes are former Central of Georgia mainlines. Georgia Southern locomotives assigned to the Fort Valley lines are usually tied down near the former Central of Georgia freight depot on Railroad Street in Fort Valley.

Georgia Southern's line to Perry is also a former Central of Georgia secondary line, originally crossing the Georgia Southern & Florida Railroad at Grovania and connecting with various lines in Hawkinsville. Currently the line ends just east of Perry and us used by several active shippers.

In the other direction, the Roberta line from Fort Valley makes use of a former Southern Railway secondary line that originally crossed the Central of Georgia branch to Thomaston at Topeka Junction, Georgia. Although track is still in place as far northwest from Fort Valley as Roberta, this entire segment is out of service. There are no active shippers remaining on this line.
